Home Security Types And Applications Of Home Alarms
Home security alarms are usually used to alert people if there is a break in at home. They are simple and are made up of sensors, a main control unit and the siren. They can be designed to sound a loud alarm to alert those around the home or they can just send a quiet alarm to an alarm response unit or the owner of the home if there is an intrusion.
These alarms can be installed in different parts of the house. There are door alarms which are usually fixed on the doors. They detect if anyone tries to open the doors and trigger the alarm to alert the authorities. Other alarms can be placed in the driveway to warn you of unexpected visitors or theft from the garage. They are mainly motion detectors. There are also pool alarms. These prevent unauthorized access to the pool by detecting waves on the surface of the pool. They are also used to let you know if children go to the pool without permission.
There are different types of alarm systems. We have the hard wire systems which use wires to transmit signals from the sensors to the main control unit. The wires are normally laid in an undetectable way so that one cannot cut them and disarm the system. There is also the wireless system. It uses radio waves to transmit signals from the sensors to the main control unit. It has an advantage in that it cannot be disarmed unless one has access to the main control and is also easier to set up.
The final type is the single unit or self-contained system. This type does not have the sensors situated away from the main control instead they are housed in one gadget disguised as a common everyday use gadget in the house. It is very easy to install and is flexible since one can change its position easily.
The sensors make up a big part of the alarm systems. They determine how the system is set up in terms of location and the area designated. There are several types of sensors depending on the method they use to detect intrusion. The first type usually measure movement and are known as motion detectors. They include microwave detectors and ultrasonic detectors. These two sensors create a field of high frequency radio and sound waves in the designated area respectively. Any movement in this area disrupts the field and triggers the alarm. The microwave detector is better because it can operate beyond walls.
The other type of sensors uses heat measurement to detect disturbance. They include infra-red detectors. They monitor the infra-red radiation in the area and if they detect radiation from a human or animal the trigger the alarm.
Measurement of noise, smoke, vibration and displacement is also used by sensors to trigger alarms. Examples of these sensors are sound detectors, smoke detectors, wave detectors and magnetic contacts respectively.
Home security alarms have been widely used all around the world to secure homes and have proved to be successful in stopping and putting off unwanted people from tampering with property belonging to other people.
